Greetings to the Pharmacy and Drug Information (PDI) section members. I’m delighted to be the chair for this fantastic section for 2013-2014.
Welcome to our new website! Our web editor, Xiaomei Gu, has moved us to a WordPress platform, which provides several benefits: the addition of this blog allows section officers to easily share news and events in PDI, and the responsive design (RWD) make web pages fit any screen sizes. Blog content will also be shared on the PDI listserv, so as long as you’re watching one of those places, you’ll know what’s happening with PDI. This website will always contain the section officers’ names and contact information, the PDI Alert newsletter, and minutes from our annual business meeting and quarterly officer’s meetings.
We have lots of exciting projects for the year, and every single one could benefit from additional volunteers. We’ll continue to maintain and improve PharmGuide, a guide to 100% free, high-quality drug information resources. We are in search of a new Membership Chair and Membership Committee to help welcome new members and retain current members. We’ll update our history by adding information about PDI-sponsored sessions at prior Medical Library Association (MLA) Annual Conferences. We’ll adjust our newsletter to ensure that the content meets section needs, and devise ways to include more member-provided content in the newsletter. We will also develop a series of webinars to share our expertise and knowledge with all members of MLA.
Many of these projects offer the opportunity for members to earn AHIP points or provide additional fodder for tenure/promotion dossiers. They can also help you learn new skills and technologies to integrate into your work. Sound interesting? Then please fill out the volunteer form.
PDI member Natalie Kupferberg has already jump-started our efforts to add new members to the section; watch for an MLA News column about our section in an upcoming issue. I am sure this effort will aid our membership chair and committee with finding new members. Thanks, Natalie!
I want to thank our officers for 2012-2013 for their work: Irena Bond, Chair; Rae Jesano, Past Chair; KT Vaughan, Treasurer; Deborah Chiarella, Secretary; Amy Knehans, Membership Chair, Penny Coppernoll-Blach, Bylaws Committee; Joanne Doucette, Newsletter Editor; Xiaomei Gu, Web Editor; Maria Vee Kwon, Governmental Relations Committee Liaison; and Sharon Giovenale, Liaison to the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Library and Educational Resources Section. I also wanted to thank Courtney Mlinar for serving as section planner for the MLA 2013 meeting, and to Natalie Kupferberg for moderating the AccessPharmacy lecture at MLA 2013.
I’m looking forward to working with all members of PDI this year! Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.
